Shade Measuring Instruction

With our easy-to-follow instructions and the use of Measurement Finder, you'll be able to gather accurate dimensions for measuring.

Inside Mount-Choose This If:

1. Your window has enough depth(≥ 2 inch)

2. You want a clean, built-in look

3. Trim details should stay visible

Outside Mount-Choose This If:

1. Window depth(< 2 inch) is limited or uneven

2. You need better light blocking

3. You want to visually enlarge the window

Measure for Inside Mount

1. Depth
Measure the
inside depth of the window frame 🇬 to ensure proper fit.

2. Width
Measure the inside width of the window frame at:
top A, middle B, and bottom C.
→ Round each measurement to the nearest ¹⁄₈ inch, then use the smallest number.

3. Height
Measure the inside height of the window frame at:
left D, center E, and right F.
→ Round each measurement to the nearest ¹⁄₈ inch, then use the largest number.

Note

  • Slight side gaps are normal for smooth operation.
  • Roman Shades (Inside Mount):
    Ordered width = Fabric width.
    We deduct 3/8" from the headrail only.
  • Bamboo Shades (Inside Mount):
    We deduct at least 1/8" from the fabric width for proper clearance.
  • Fabric width refers to the material only, not the headrail.
  • We handle all production deductions — no extra math required.
  • Ensure the window frame is sturdy for direct drilling.

Measure for Outside Mount

  1. Width
    Window width + 2–3 inches on each side
  2. Height
    From top mounting point to desired length

📌 Tip: Mount at least 4 inches above the window frame for best coverage.

Note

  • Shades installed as an outside mount with a back valance will have the fabric set forward from the wall by the thickness of the headrail.
    This creates a narrow gap between the shade sides and the wall surface.
  • As a result, some side light may enter around the edges, especially if the wall or window trim isn’t perfectly flat.
  • If you want maximum light control with outside mount shades, we recommend selecting a front valance.
    It extends forward to cover the headrail and seals more closely to the wall, greatly reducing side gaps.

Measuring for Special Doors & Windows

French Doors

Recommended: Outside Mount

  • Width: Measure the glass width, then add 2–3 inches to ensure full coverage over the glass area.
  • Height: Measure from at least 2 inches above the top of the glass to the desired length.
  • Avoid handles and locks.

Note: Mounted directly on the door. Small side light gaps are normal.

Sliding Doors

Recommended: Outside Mount

  • Measure full door width
  • Add 2–4 inches on each side for better coverage
  • Measure from top mounting point to desired length

Note:
Allow enough space above the door for installation.
Light gaps may occur when using multiple shades.
