The Journey from Silkworm to Silk

The transformation from silkworm to silk thread is a delicate process. Silkworms feed on mulberry leaves and spin cocoons made of a single silk filament up to 900 meters long. Once the cocoons are fully formed, they are carefully harvested.

To extract the silk, the cocoons are boiled or steamed to soften the sericin, allowing the filaments to be unwound. Multiple filaments are then twisted together to create strong silk threads, which are cleaned, dyed, and woven into fine fabrics.

This intricate process requires skill and patience, producing silk known for its softness, strength, and luxurious sheen.
